Recently I met up with my friend James in Bernkastel Kues. We were scratching our heads for places to eat when I remembered a place I drive past whenever I visit the town. Continue reading “Kloster Machern near Bernkastel Kues”
If you are looking for a real Christmas tree this year, Baumschule Erbe from Erden will be selling them at Kloster Machern near Bernkastel Kues between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on the following dates:
- 6th through 8th December inclusive
- 13th through 15th December inclusive
- 19th through 22nd December inclusive
Whilst you are there, the monastery (“Kloster”) itself is worth exploring. As well as the usual ecclesiastical buildings, there is also a brewery, museum and winery.
Kloster Machern website is http://www.klostermachern.de/ although it is only in German so you might need to run it through Google Translate.
To get you in the Christmas spirit, Bernkastel Kues is holding a concert called “Chris (t) mas mit Chris Kramer”.
I myself am not familiar with this Chris Kramer or his band, but according to the blurb, he is a well-known harmonica virtuoso. Also, his pianist Nicholas Floer seemingly caused a stir at the Montreux Jazz festival.
The unique thing about this concert is that Christmas carols and other songs will be sung in English, French Spanish, Italian and German or a combination of those. The music spans several genres including blues, classical, jazz, swing and boogie-woogie so everyone will be catered for. An elaborate light show is also promised to add to the ambience.
The concert takes place on Saturday 8th December 2018 in the church of St. Michael in Bernkastel-Kues. Admission is from 6 p.m. with the show commencing at 6.30 p.m. Ticket prices are €18 for adults, €8 for children up to 14 years of age and €14 for everyone else.
Tickets can are available at https://www.ticket-regional.de/events.php?mysearchEventtype=BEJOYNT+GmbH+&+Co.+KG&lang=en and can be either sent by email to print at home, or they can be posted for an extra charge.
The website for the event is https://www.weihnachtsmarkt-bernkastel-kues.de/programmpunkte/weihnachtsbuehne-karlsbader-platz/. Unfortunately, that is only in German which is ironic given the show will be in five languages!
