Sunday – the Day of German Peace

One of the biggest culture shocks for foreigners when they first come to Germany is how some of the seemingly innocent Sunday chores could get you into big trouble.

I have lost count of the number of times where I have taken Saturday’s empties to the recycling bank on Sunday morning and then run around with the vacuum cleaner in the afternoon simply because I don’t get time during the rest of the week to do it. Unbeknown to me, I have been breaking the law on many occasions as this video explains:

I suppose I am lucky as I have great neighbours who also commit similar offences on the day of rest as enshrined in law.

Oh, and for those of you with noisy kids living next door, don’t get too excited. Apparently, the rules don’t apply to families with young children.
