Markets in Trier

If you are heading to Trier, you may be interested to know there are several regular markets for you to enjoy.

A variety of fresh produce and flowers are available at the main market (“Hauptmarkt”) which takes place daily except Sundays. Opening hours are between 7 am and 7 pm from April to September and between 8 am and 7 pm for the rest of the year. The market closes during events such as the Easter Market, Aldstadtfest or Trier Spielt, the market. It is located at Hauptmarkt, although during the Christmas Market it relocates to the Kornmarkt and in front of the Commerzbank on Brotstraße.

On Saturdays, a mixed market takes place in front of the cathedral on Domfreihof (Viehmarktplatz during the Christmas Market and Heilig-Rock-Tage). Here you can buy a variety of produce, dairy and meat products, toys, jewellery and garments. The market opens between 7 am and 3 pm from April to September, and 8 am to 3 pm for the rest of the year. The market does not operate during the Altstadtfest and Trier Spielt events.

The weekly market (Wochenmarkt) is a traditional farmer’s market. Local producers sell homegrown produce, artisan bread, cakes, dairy products and much more. It takes place on Tuesdays and Fridays on the Viehmarktplatz (or Augustinerhof when other events are underway) between 7 am and 2 pm April to September, and between 8 am and 2 pm at all other times of the year. In the event a public holiday falls on either day, the market is brought forward one day i.e. to Monday or Thursday.
