I just stumbled across this pic I took a few months ago whilst out exploring. If your kids are anything like mine, the thrill of taking a ferry across the river is infinitely more fun than taking some boring bridge. This ferry departs from the beautiful town of Briedel and once across the other side you have easy access to Zell-Barl with its supermarkets, DIY stores and a host of other daily necessities. Of course, the ferry is seasonal and if it is not running there is a bridge just a few clicks down the road at Zell.
Briedel is well worth a visit. Sure, it is a typical Mosel town with lots of “fachwerk” (timber framed) buildings, but like each of the towns that straddle the river, it has its own unique history, great restaurants and a pleasingly sleepy feel to it. And of course, it is super-photogenic so don’t forget to take a camera.
